THE HOLLAND CHRISTMAS HERALD 2014
Happy Christmas to you and those you love. Our slide show is around four minutes this year – given the average online video only holds people’s attention for 90 seconds, we really hope you last to the end!
This Christmas we are, happily, a family of five again and we will spend it on the beach at our favourite place, Fingal.
Here’s a few highlights from 2014.
The year began with a humid five hour climb up Mt Warning with my brother Rich and his family. Our legs were jelly for the next few days, but it was a new memory etched for all of us.
In April, London called - and Steve and I spent 12 fabulous days with Kate, meeting her Pommie pals and being “alternative” tourists. We also took her to the amazing Dublin town for a couple of days to celebrate her 20th birthday.
In July, Kate graduated with a graphic design qualification from Shillington College. You can see her portfolio at kateholland.com.au - and if anyone is looking for a junior graphic designer, please get in touch!
The UK Dept of Immigration decided two years in London was enough for Kate, so she reluctantly booked a flight home in August, surprising all of us by turning up at the back door one morning, five days earlier than expected. Best surprise ever.
Matt’s milestone year included winning a cinematography award at the school’s short film fest, turning 18 (with a big movie-themed party), his school formal and successfully graduating. His underwater photography is gaining more followers on Instagram - @matt_holland_photo.
In July, Matt and Steve did a photography trip to Lady Elliott in the southern Great Barrier Reef, where they got some beautiful shots of turtles and rays. Matt's plans next year are still a mystery to his parents.
Meg completed middle school with good results thanks to an inspiring teacher. She is still passionate about all forms of music, took a lead role in the school musical and in other achievements, ran down a Year 7 boy in the billycart race. Senior school awaits…

In September, we had a week’s holiday at Yamba, mainly because we thought it might be the last chance for a family holiday with all five of us for a while. (video below)
Steve spent five hectic days working at the G20 in November, covering airport arrivals and departures. His special London moment was a photographer’s reunion after 25 years at The Abbey Tavern. Sadly, in March, his dear Nan passed away peacefully at the grand age of 101.
For me life has been incredibly busy this year, from both a work and family point of view. Even with adult children, life is still demanding! A quick weekend away in Sydney in August to see family and good friends was lovely. My darling dad Ian had to go into assisted living in June but he is doing okay. I am so happy to have my whole family together this Christmas.
We wish you peace, good times and a happy 2015.
Love Rob, Steve, Kate, Matt and Meg.
